The DevShop talk given by Slava Kim gives an excellent overview of his experimentation with integrating RethinkDB with Meteor. In doing so, he does a great job of explaining why it’s so difficult to integrate Databases other than MongoDB. If this kind of thing interests you, I highly recommend you watch.
